I'm well and truly knacked today and will be for the next few days until I recover. I think doing the last 40 mile TT at the Uni today (2:00:05) and the club 25 mile TT within the space of 4 hours was just a bit too much for the legs especially after the 40 mile TT on the Tuesday as well. It was a very hard 25 mile TT tonight, I haven't suffered that much in the saddle since the first ride out with the club in fact I suffered a lot more tonight.
I reckon I can put down a lot of new highs here from what the Polar picked up on eg: average heart rate 91% max heart rate 98% average speed 21.6 and 25.200 miles in 1:10:42, not that I did that by my own strength I spend most of the time hanging on to my time trial partners rear wheel with every ounce of strength I had!
I think next time I should take the recovery time and be able to give a better effort, I'm glad I did the 25 TT tho it was a hard choice to throw myself into it after the Uni today but I am glad I did it and I can say now it was quite enjoyable :)

Laboratory Testing - Session 5
I was up at the Uni this afternoon to do the second last session of the tests, again it was the same as the last four sessions doing 4 laps of 16 km (10miles) on the CompuTrainer. The legs felt better than last Tuesday having benefited from a full days rest after the Etape Caledonia unlike last Monday.
The time for today was good, so I didn't get too far ahead of myself by bloging last time that I would get a 1hr 53min as I thought I did, final time was 1hr 53min 05sec so thats 1min 40secs off last time. The final session is tomorrow afternoon then later there is a Club 25 2up TT in the evening!...yeah the legs will be sore on Thursday thats for sure.

I managed to find five photos of myself on the official Etape Caledonia photo site at Sportcam. I happen to be 6th from the front in the photo on the main Etape Caledonia result page with the CSC jacket so I included that image.

Etape Caledonia 2008
The registration day before the Etape Caledonia didn't turn out too well for me, after getting my self registered and collecting my goodie bag then pitching up the tent I discovered that I had left one of my shoes at home!. After half a hour of frantic phone calls back home and looking everywhere in the car there was no other option but to make the 85 mile trip back to Glasgow get the shoe and return to Pitlochry.
The start of the Etape Caledonia brought some good weather and a great turn out it was jam packed with cyclist of all shapes and sizes I think the full 2000 entrants must have turned up!. It was a first for me to do the Etape Caledonia and I thought it was a super sportive but The Lakeland Loop or even the Bealach Na Ba it isn't by far the climbs just don't compare, on the other hand it has the benefit of calling its self the country's only closed road sportive event that is well marshalled in some terrific scenery.

The results that were sent to me via SMS which was a bit of a surprise tell me my total time was 4hrs 6mins 32secs and my placing 298 with a 3 min rest stop according to the Polar CS200. The official times and photos should be online sometime next week for me to update the blog with.

Etape Caledonia Prep
I will be heading off this afternoon to do the Etape Caledonia up in Pitlochry, the weather looks if it is going to be good and I expect a good turn out unlike last year. I understand you can track some of the riders by GPS at Sportstrack but I haven't found out how to get my own unit tracked if I do before I leave it will be on the site.
Earlier today I gave the Roubaix a good check over and clean up to make sure all goes well with it on the day. I thought I would add a few photos of the bike all ready to go seeing as its sporting its new white saddle and bar tape, it does add a bit of bling me thinks.

Laboratory Testing - Session 3 & 4
I was back at Glasgow Uni on Tuesday and Wednesday for the 64km (40mile) time trials. The first session on the Tuesday went well with a time of 1hr 55min 15 seconds so that was 30 seconds faster than last week, not a lot to go by but I wasn't slower than last week which is important and I did do a 13 hour shift at work on Monday were I was constantly on my feet all day.
On the Wednesday I noticed the muscles were quite sore in particular in the calf region and I did consider not doing the TT but thought sod it just go for it. After about 5km I noticed that I was going quite well and the speed and power output were going good. I did spend more time than usual out the saddle which was due to the soreness in my legs but I felt strong and ended with a time of 1hr 54min 45 seconds so thats 30 seconds faster than the day before and 1 minute faster than last week.
So the last 2 sessions are next Tuesday and Wednesday at the University, I reckon a 1hr 53min on the Tuesday and 1hr 52min on the Wednesday maybe, but to say the least I would be surprised if I didn't knock another minute off but I'll see what happens.

Sunday Club Run 11/05
I am a little late with some updates on the blog due to moving to our new house and waiting to get the internet hooked up.
The club ride on Sunday was 88 miles at a moderate pace with a few sprints now and then, the group split up at about 40 miles but I was eager to get some more miles in so I headed up to Loch Katrine as it was just too good a day to go home at 12 noon, and of-course I didn't have to spend the rest of the day doing house decorating :)
